Ortophaedic Prosthetics And Orthotics Program

PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
The aim of this course is to educate health technicians who are able to make durable, aesthetic and functional orthoses for the people who lost their arms and legs due to various reasons, to reduce the pain, increase the function, immobilize, corrective and supportive purposes for the prosthesis that can replace the functions of the limb and the musculoskeletal and nervous system.

TITLE

The graduates of the program are given associate degree diploma and the title of Health Technician in the field of Orthopedic Prosthetics-Orthotics.
Orthopedic Prosthesis Orthosis technician training is carried out in various European countries with training programs starting from 6 months to 2 years. This training, which was started 34 years ago in our country, is in the form of a 2-year associate degree program and aimed at gaining a profession.

INTRODUCTION TO VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

Students who score 150 or more from the Basic Proficiency Exam may choose the program.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Orthopedic Prosthesis Orthosis Technician is the person who works in the construction of artificial limbs (prostheses) which will perform the functions of these organs in case of loss of limb such as hand, arm, foot, leg or body parts which need to be functionally supported, protected and corrected for any reason. The patient is responsible for the measurement of the prosthesis-orthotics, the ability to process the resulting measurement model and to make biomechanical adjustments for the prosthesis or orthosis.

DURATION AND CONTENT OF EDUCATION

Orthopedic Prosthesis and orthotics program; students take theoretical and practical courses intensively during their two-year associate degree education and do internship in first and second grades.
There are 88 ECTS compulsory and 32 ECTS elective courses, including common compulsory courses. The ratio of the elective courses in the department is 15% and 10% in the department.

Job opportunities and working areas of graduates

Graduates can work in state, private and university hospitals with prosthesis-orthotics workshops and their own private workshops. Arm and leg prostheses, trunk corsets, short and long walking devices, foot supports and similar auxiliary devices can measure and make. Since it is a branch that constantly develops and renews itself with technological development, the need for personnel in this field is increasing.
