General Information About the Programme

Medical Imaging Programme is one of the nine programmes of Hacettepe University Health Services and Vocational School, which started academically in 1984. The school is located in Hacettepe University Sihhiye Campus D block, 3rd floor. Programme Director is Prof Dr Macit Arıyürek from Hacettepe University Department of Radiology since 2014. Academic organization is supervised and performed by members of Hacettepe University Department of Radiology.

Provisions for Registration

The students are admitted without examination from Health Services and Vocational Schools according to their weighted high school grade point average. If there is an open position in the program which is not filled by the graduates of Vocational School, then, general high school graduates may also apply to the programs.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

According to Hacettepe University, Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree Education and Examination Regulations , students must   fulfill all the credits that the program anticipated (Total 120 ACTS) successfully with a weighted grading point average at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

Article 21-(1) Students may receive lectures from other institutions, and those lectures may be included in the transcripts. The university senate decides the equivalence of the lectures.

(2)The grades of these lectures are determined as according to the 24th article of this legislation, if the grades are nominal the coefficients are used, if the grading is numerical, then the 2 digit grades are used in order to calculate the equivalent grades.

Goals and Objectives

The aim for this programme is to raise assistants who can use their knowledge on radiologic modalities and communication skills as well as work in coordination with other health personal in both diagnostic and therapeutic processes led by the medical doctor.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates may work in Radiology (conventional radiology, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, nonvascular interventional radiology, mammography), Nuclear Medicine and radiotherapy departments of university, government or private hospitals as well as private imaging centres and clinics.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates or pre-graduates of the programme may transfer to further studies (Nursing, Nursing and Health Services) announced by ÖSYM according to Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) scores.

Profile of the Programme

The program is in Turkish and includes four semesters. Students receive both theoretical and practical lectures; however, the programme is largely on practical lectures in general. Elective courses and mandatory lectures form 32.5% and 67.5% of programme respectively. The mandatory-common lectures including Basic English I-II, Atatürk Doctrine and Revolution History I-II and Turkish Language I-II are given in the first and second semester, and they constitute 13.3% of the whole program. There is one Medical Imaging lecture per semester. Provisions for lectures are defined by the responsible instructor. Elective lectures should constitute at least 25% of 30 ACTS every semester. Students may choose the elective lectures according to the programme or from other the elective lectures with the same ACTS value. Students receive the practical education every semester, which may be fulfilled by the responsible instructor throughout the year or as probation at the end of first or second year. Practical lectures are given in Hacettepe University Department of Radiology sub branches such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computerized Tomography, Conventional Radiology and Interventional Radiology. There are also Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy rotations.
